Product Description
2-Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE)
Versatile Amino Alcohol for Multisector Chemical Synthesis and Functional Applications
2-Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE),multifunctional amino alcohol for industrial and commercial applications, also known as N,N-dimethylethanolamine, is a colorless to pale yellow hygroscopic liquid with a distinct amine-like odor. It is fully miscible with water, alcohols, and polar organic solvents such as ether, while exhibiting limited solubility in non-polar hydrocarbons. With a boiling point of 134-136°C and a flash point of 40°C (closed cup), DMAE demonstrates moderate volatility and requires careful handling due to flammability. Its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air at concentrations of 2.0% to 12.4% (volume fraction). DMAE acts as a tertiary amine and primary alcohol, enabling dual reactivity in chemical processes.
Key Industrial Applications
Pharmaceuticals:
·Intermediate in the synthesis of anticholinergic drugs (e.g., dicyclomine), antihistamines, and local anesthetics.
·Stabilizer and solubilizing agent in injectable formulations.
Polyurethane Production:
·Critical catalyst for flexible foam manufacturing, balancing gelation and blowing reactions.
·Accelerator in epoxy resin curing and adhesive systems.
Water Treatment:
·Corrosion inhibitor in boiler water and closed-loop cooling systems.
·pH regulator for industrial wastewater neutralization.
Personal Care:
·Key ingredient in anti-aging skincare products (precursor to acetylcholine).
·Emulsifier and pH adjuster in shampoos and lotions.
Fuel Additives:
·Detergent component to prevent engine deposits.
·Combustion improver in marine and aviation fuels.
Coatings & Resins:
·Crosslinking agent for acrylic and alkyd resins.
·Catalyst for UV-curable coatings and inks.
